Why wishes for your boss read differently
A boss sits above you, so the register is reverent, not chummy: sincere, a little formal, focused on respect and gratitude rather than closeness. Acknowledge their guidance or leadership, wish their family well, and avoid jokes or over-familiarity that a peer would enjoy but a senior may not.
In Hindi this is non-negotiable: always **आप** (aap), the respectful “you” — **never तुम** (tum), which is for friends and juniors and reads as disrespectful to a senior. A safe, warm-professional opener is “आदरणीय … आपको दिवाली की शुभकामनाएँ” (aadaraniya … aapko Diwali ki shubhkamnayein). The honorific (Sir/Ma’am, जी, आदरणीय) raises the formality another notch.
This is the top of the formality scale. For a colleague you can relax it a little (see Diwali wishes for colleagues); for a brother or friend you drop it entirely. Matching the register to the relationship is exactly what makes a wish land.

Questions
- What is a good Diwali message for your boss?
- Keep it respectful and sincere: wish them and their family prosperity, and thank them for their guidance. Copy any of the 10 messages above, or personalize a video wish with their name.
- Should I use आप or तुम for my boss in Hindi?
- Always आप (aap). तुम (tum) is familiar and reads as disrespectful to a senior — reserve it for friends and juniors.
- Is it appropriate to wish my boss on Diwali?
- Yes — a warm, professional Diwali message is welcome and appreciated. Keep it respectful and include their family.
- How formal should a Diwali wish to a manager be?
- Formal and sincere, but not stiff. An honorific (Sir/Ma’am/जी) and a note of thanks for their guidance strike the right tone.
